{"id":15478,"date":"2015-08-12T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-12T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mostlyfood.co.uk\/?p=15478"},"modified":"2021-11-17T19:26:23","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T19:26:23","slug":"haggis-bhajis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testing22.mostlyfood.co.uk\/index.php\/haggis-bhajis\/","title":{"rendered":"Haggis Bhajis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From BBC Food<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Haggis works particularly well in these crispy onion bhajis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Ingredients<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mostlyfood.co.uk\/Recipes\/haggis_bhajis_41124_16x9.jpg\" width=\"385\" height=\"220\" \/><\/h4>\n<p>For the bhajis<br \/>\n2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus extra for deep-frying<br \/>\n3 onions, sliced<br \/>\n1 garlic clove, crushed<br \/>\n1 red chili, chopped<br \/>\n200g\/7oz cooked haggis<br \/>\n250-300g\/9 oz-10\u00bdoz gram flour<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>For the dip<\/h4>\n<p>300ml\/10fl oz orange juice<br \/>\n100ml\/3\u00bdfl oz white wine vinegar<br \/>\n300g\/10oz caster sugar<br \/>\n100ml\/3\u00bdfl oz whisky<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Method<\/h4>\n<p>Heat two tablespoons of the oil in a heavy-based saucepan and fry the onions for 5-10 minutes, or until golden-brown.<\/p>\n<p>Mix the onion, chili, garlic and haggis in a bowl until well combined. Place the flour into a separate bowl whisk in 125ml\/4fl oz warm water until the consistency of double cream.<\/p>\n<p>Stir the onion mixture into the batter until well combined. Using two teaspoons, shape the mixture into small quenelles.<\/p>\n<p>Fill a deep-fat fryer or a large, deep, heavy-bottomed pan two-thirds full with vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 180C\/350F (use a probe thermometer to check the temperature if you&#8217;re not using a deep-fat fryer). (CAUTION: Hot oil can be dangerous. Don&#8217;t leave unattended)<\/p>\n<p>Carefully place the bhajis in the hot oil and cook for 2-3 minutes or until just cooked through. Remove from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper.
