{"id":15928,"date":"2024-07-30T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-30T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mostlyfood.co.uk\/?p=15928"},"modified":"2022-03-17T12:40:03","modified_gmt":"2022-03-17T12:40:03","slug":"sherry-trifle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/testing22.mostlyfood.co.uk\/index.php\/sherry-trifle\/","title":{"rendered":"Sherry Trifle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From BBC Food<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This traditional trifle recipe couldn&#8217;t be easier, use ready-made custard and sponge to save time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Ingredients<\/h4>\n<p>1 packet trifle sponges, broken into 5cm\/2in pieces<br \/>\n\u00bd packet of amaretti biscuits or 150g\/5oz macaroons or ratafias<br \/>\n150ml\/5fl oz sweet sherry<br \/>\n1 tbsp cognac<br \/>\n4 tbsp blackberry or raspberry jam<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mostlyfood.co.uk\/Recipes\/sherrytrifle_76387_16x9.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n450g\/1 lb fresh blackberries<br \/>\n450g\/1 lb fresh raspberries<br \/>\n85g\/3oz toasted flaked almonds<br \/>\n600ml\/1 pint ready-made custard<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>For the syllabub topping<\/h4>\n<p>125ml\/4fl oz sherry<br \/>\n2 tbsp brandy<br \/>\n1 lemon, juice only<br \/>\n55g\/2oz caster sugar<br \/>\n425ml\/15fl oz double cream<br \/>\nfreshly grated nutmeg<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>To garnish<\/h4>\n<p>2 oranges, grated zest only<br \/>\n85g\/3oz flaked almonds<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Method<\/h4>\n<p>Lay the sponge pieces and biscuits in the base of a deep glass dish. Spoon over the sherry and cognac and leave to soak in for a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Warm the jam until it is runny then pour over the soaked sponge and biscuits. Sprinkle the fruit and flaked almonds on top then pour over the custard.<\/p>\n<p>To make the syllabub topping, place the sherry, brandy and lemon juice into a bowl and stir in the sugar until it dissolves.<\/p>\n<p>Pour in the cream with a pinch of nutmeg. Whisk together using a wire balloon whisk until it holds its shape.
