Fun fairy cakes for the children to help bake.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
<\/h4>\n100g softened butter
\n100g caster sugar
\n\u00bd teaspoon vanilla essence
\n2 medium eggs, beaten
\n100g self-raising flour<\/p>\n
\u00bd teaspoon baking powder
\n100g icing sugar
\n1-2 tablespoons hot water
\nFood colouring<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Preheat the oven to 170\u00b0C, fan 150\u00b0C, gas 3.<\/p>\n
Cream the butter, sugar and vanilla essence until creamy. Add the egg a little at a time and beat well.<\/p>\n
Sieve the flour and baking powder into the bowl and stir together using a metal spoon.<\/p>\n
Line a 12 hole bun tin with paper cases. Divide the mixture between the paper cases and bake for approximately 15 minutes or until risen and golden brown.<\/p>\n
Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.<\/p>\n
Beat the icing sugar with a small amount of water, a splash at a time, until the icing is fairly thick. Add a couple of drops of the colouring, until you have the colour you want. Spoon over the cooled fairy cakes, decorate as you wish and leave to set for a few minutes before serving<\/p>\n
