It\u2019s not difficult to make authentic Japanese food but it\u2019s made even easier if one has access to the best ingredients. The Japan Centre in London offers all the culinary support you will ever need, and there is plenty online if you live away from the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese appreciate their own cuisine, but they have adopted foods from other countries too. They love their thick, American-style hot cakes or pancakes. The Japan Centre has a mix which makes this fluffy treat simple to prepare, and they are bound to become a family favourite.<\/p>\n<h4>For breakfast or dessert<\/h4>\n<p>Showa brand Hot Cake Mix is a blend of all the dry ingredients needed for making those iconic thick, and light pancakes perfect every time. Just add an egg and a little milk and you are on your way to a delicious breakfast \u2013 or even dessert.<\/p>\n<p>These Japanese pancakes are nothing like the European crepe or pancake often consumed on Shrove Tuesday. These are more like Scotch pancakes or American flapjacks and are often served with maple syrup or stuffed with sweet azuki beans. They are delicious and they look impressive. A perfect breakfast, but top with some fresh fruit and cream and you have a quick dessert.<\/p>\n<h4>Recipe<\/h4>\n<p>Showa Hot Cake Mix could not be easier to use \u2013 to make 3 pancakes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put 1 egg and 100ml milk (or water) in a bowl and whisk thoroughly. Add half the packet of hot cake mix and whisk until smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Heat a frying pan over a medium heat, place on top of a damp cloth to cool a little, then add 1\/3 of the pancake mix.<\/li>\n<li>Heat on a low flame for about 3 minutes till bubbles form on the top. Flip the pancake and cook for a further 3 minutes until brown on both sides and slide onto a plate.
