Luxardo Aperitivo

luxardo aperitivoLuxardo Aperitivo – a glow in a glass

Established in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo, this celebrated company is still entirely controlled by the same founding family. Luxardo is perhaps best known for its iconic cherry products, but Luxardo Aperitivo is something rather different.

Luxardo scottitivoLuxardo Aperitivo takes its inspiration from the civilized Italian tradition of appetite-enhancing drinks before lunch or dinner. This sunset-red drink is in the same bracket as Campari or Aperol, but Aperitivo does have its own character.

After-dinner sipping too!

This Aperitivo offers bittersweet grapefruit and orange flavours and makes a refreshing marriage when mixed with a sparkling wine and soda for a Spritz. But I have developed a cocktail that will work just as well in cooler weather and even for after-dinner sipping. I have called it Scottitivo and it’s made with blended Scotch Whisky, Luxardo Aperitivo, a little lemon juice, and sugar syrup to taste.

Luxardo Aperitivo might be the newer kid on the block in comparison to the aforementioned old-stagers but it has plenty to recommend it. It’s versatile and while giving a nod to Italian tradition still fills a delicious contemporary slot. Luxardo never disappoints.
